“I’ve got a stable job now and I’ve got stable accommodation again, so it’s really helped me to rebuild my life back up.”

Originally from the North-West of England, Jake* was living in Newcastle close to his two daughters when he lost his job. This then led to him losing his flat, and having to move to Wales to live with his sister. The stress of losing his job and his flat, and being away from his daughters caused a lot of stress for Jake, and he was keen to get back on his own feet.

“I was under a lot of stress because of everything going on, obviously I had lost my job, I didn’t have a place to live. I have two daughters up in Newcastle and being away from them – it was a really difficult time for me.”

Jake was put in touch with Nacro, a charity that helps adults and young people through housing, education and justice services. Jake’s support worker, Joanne, was quickly able to find him accommodation, and applied to the Vicar’s Relief Fund for a grant to secure him a place to live. Jake now has a stable place to live, and he’s feeling much more positive.

“That’s what gave me the boost to be where I am now, and be in the position of knowing where I’m going again in life.”

On top of his new home, Jake has a job he loves with great opportunities for the future. Originally a six month placement, he’ll be starting an apprenticeship after the initial six months and then moving into a full-time job. He’s looking forward to seeing his daughters again soon, too.
